Finally, jazz age lawn party pictures!!

Remember a few weeks ago, how excited I was to go to the lawn party at governors island? Well here are some lovely pictures that our talented friend Trent took that day (Dara and Nick took some too). It was too hot for me to schlep around a camera.  Luckily for us we are friends with photographers because they’re always ready with their fancy equipment.  We had so much fun and can’t wait for the next one!  Se acuerdan hace unas semanas que les dije que estaba super emocionada de ir a la fiesta del jazz? Pues aquí estan las fotos que nuestro amigo Trent tomó (Dara y Nick tambien tomaron unas cuantas).  Estaba haciendo demasiado calor para andar cargando con una cámara.  Afortunadamente tenemos amigos fotógrafos que siempre cargan con su equipo profesional. Nos divertimos muchísimo y estamos super emocionados y listos para el próximo evento!

Surviving Irene

{No water to be found.  No encontramos agua.}

The dreaded Irene came and went this weekend and all we got from her was cabin fever from being stuck inside.  The storm hit while we were sleeping and ended up being a tropical storm instead of a hurricane.  We didn’t loose power, there weren’t even any puddles for me to jump in (at least in our neighborhood) and the only reason I opened up one of the 6 gallons of water is because we need to use them up because they’re taking up precious space in our miniature apartment. Afterwards we went out for a much needed walk and to end the weekend we had a hurricane relief dinner last night with our awesome friends Dara & Trent! Thank you Lord that it wasn’t any worse. La temida Irene vino y se fue este fin y lo único que nos dejó fue un poco de desesperación por haber estado encerrados.  La tormenta llego mientras dormíamos y terminó siendo una tormenta tropical y no un huracán.  No se fue la luz y ni siquiera hubo charquitos para brincotear (por lo menos en nuestra área); y la única razón por la que abrí uno de los 6 galones de agua es porque necesitamos el espacio.  Después nos fuimos a caminar un ratito y para terminar el fin y celebrar el huracán anoche fuimos a cenar con nuestros queridos amigos Dara & Trent! Gracias a Dios no estuvo peor.

A perfect ending to the week…

It’s been quite a week over on this coast.  First we get hit with a “devastating earthquake” and now to finish we are on hurricane warning. It’s the perfect ending to my first week of work!!! I’m not complaining or anything.  I had a perfectly lovely week that included our attendance to the very last of the summer movies at Bryant Park and some much needed shopping with my awesome new working-girl discount! I even got a couple of my faves from last week (including the cute little bow belt: a congratulatory gift from the hubs for getting a job.  Isn’t he just the sweetest?!).  On more important news (for those that are worried)…we’ve stocked up on water, some canned food,a couple of saint candles and we’ll be getting some ice and extra batteries for flash lights  just in case.  Bring it on Irene!!  Hemos tenido una semana llena de sorpresas en este lado del mundo.  Empezamos la semana con un temblor devastador y para cerrar con broche de oro estamos esperando un huracán.  Un final perfecto para mi primera semana de trabajo!!!  No me estoy quejando ni nada.  Tuve una semana espectacular: alcanzamos la última película del verano en el parque y me toco ir de compras con mi nuevo descuento de trabajadora.  Hasta me compré unas de mis cosas favoritas que les compartí la semana pasada (incluyendo el cintito del moño que mi esposito me dió como regalo por haber conseguido trabajo.  Es el mejor no?!)  Cambiando de tema a lo más importante (para los que estan preocupados por nosotros)….estamos listos…ya compramos agua, comida enlatada y unas cuantas velas y compraremos baterías y hielo mañana.  Irene, te estamos esperando!!

Ok, ok I know that summer is almost over and some kids have even started school, but wouldn’t you LOVE to be able to swim in these amazing pools?! I know I would and I’m actually daydreaming that I am floating in one of them right now.  Ok, ok ya se que el verano ya casi terminó y que algunos niños ya entraron a clases, pero no les ENCANTARÍA poder nadar en estas albercas tan increíbles?! I can’t tell you how excited we are to go to the Bi-Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party this weekend.  We were so bummed when we missed it at the end of June, but not this time!!  We got tickets and will be going with some friends for the second one. I can’t wait! No saben lo emocionados que estamos de ir al Bi-Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party este fin.  Nos perdimos la de junio, pero esta vez no!!! Ya compramos nuestros boletos e iremos con unos amiguitos! Que emociónnnn!!!!

The 4th

{Delicious cake we enjoyed. Pastel delicioso que disfrutamos.)

Remember my “for sure” plans of going to the museum yesterday? Well that was a bust. There was a 2 hour wait line!! I should’ve known….last day of event + 4th of July (day off) + free = no entry. So I missed out on the Van Cleef & Arpels exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt and  I was pretty bummed, but the firework show at the end of our day totally made up for it. Even though it wasn’t the best spot…it was still magical.  Se acuerdan de mi plan “seguro” de ir al museo ayer? Pues no se pudo.  Había una fila de 2 horas de espera!! Lo debí haber sabido….último día del evento + 4 de julio (día libre) + gratis = te quedas afuera. Así que me perdí la exhibición de Van Cleef & Arpels del Cooper-Hewitt. Y aunque me quedé con ganas de verla, el show de cohetes al final del día me hizo sentir mucho mejor. A pesar de que no teníamos la mejor vista….fue un momento mágico!

Summer’s here!

{We get beautiful sunsets too! A nosotros también nos tocan atardeceres preciosos!}

Summer officially got here yesterday and though it hasn’t been absurdly hot in the last few days, our teeny apartment seems to have different thoughts and is about 10 degrees hotter than outside (making me crazy of course!). So to cool down yesterday we went out for an early evening stroll in the park and ended up on the tire swings in the playground! I’d forgotten how much fun it is! Such a nice quick little break from adulthood! And as a bonus, on the way back home we spotted our first batch of fireflies!! Oficialmente ayer por fin llegó el verano y aunque no ha hecho muchisísimo calor estos últimos días, nuestro mini depa tiene otros planes y ha estado unos 10 grados más caliente que afuera (y claro eso me está volviendo loca!).  Así que, para enfriarnos un poquito ayer salimos al parque a pasearnos un ratito y terminamos en los columpios! Se me había olvidado lo que divertido son! Fue un lindo descansito de la vida de adultos! Y para cerrar la nochecita nos encontramos con un lindo grupito de luciérnagas!!
