As I’m writing this I’m sitting home, in a perfectly cool apartment (thank you fall weather!) dizzy as I can be.  You see, I suffer from vertigo and today has not been the best day so I stayed home from work. The good news is I’m participating (for the 2nd year in a row) in a fun little giveaway.  Follow the links for a chance to win 1 of 5 lovely gift packages…you have until the 20th of September to participate.  Thank you RikRak Studio for the chance to play again!

FNO 2011

{SOHO}

Around this time last year I was wishing I was in NYC for the FNO event.  This year it was last week and since we live here we obviously went out. Sadly I’d had my first really, really bad day at work thus I was in party pooper mood all evening.  I’d like to apologize to my dear friend Dara for this, I know you were really looking forward to it.

We did manage to go to the following places/Por lo menos nos tocó ir a los siguientes lugares:

1. DVF (meatpacking)

2. Phaidon store (soho)

3. Billy Reid

4. Osklen

….and 1 other place I don’t remember (next to DVF).  The highlight of my night you ask?? The L.A. taco truck that was in the meatpacking district (don’t remember the name) that had 2 mini tacos for $1.69 with a free soda. Needless to say, it really wasn’t what I was expecting ….first because I wasn’t really in the mood and second because I really don’t like mobs and this whole night was about giant mobs of people everywhere (for those that don’t know, FNO kicks off the start of fashion week).  At the moment I have no desire to do it again next year, but we’ll see how I feel then!

Finally, jazz age lawn party pictures!!

{Yep, I stole these pics from Trent’s Blog.  Sip, me robé estas fotitos del blog de Trent.}

Remember a few weeks ago, how excited I was to go to the lawn party at governors island? Well here are some lovely pictures that our talented friend Trent took that day (Dara and Nick took some too). It was too hot for me to schlep around a camera.  Luckily for us we are friends with photographers because they’re always ready with their fancy equipment.  We had so much fun and can’t wait for the next one!

You can visit their blogs for the rest of the images/ Pueden visitar sus blogs para ver el resto de las imágenes:

Mad Men

{Mad Men casting call. Casting del programa Mad Men.}

So we are officially obsessed with Mad Men.  Have you guys seen it?? We just finished catching up with the last season and can’t wait until the next one starts next year.  We were a bit slow to get into it, but now we’re completely hooked.  A friend of mine is trying to get a walk on role on the show and has asked for some help.   The contest goes until September 25 and you can vote once a day until then.  You have to sign up for an account which is pretty dumb, but hey…it would really help her out.  I just signed up my junk email that I normally use for such things.  Please won’t you help her?! Pretty pleaseeee with sugar and a cherry on top!?! I promise you she’s awesome and the cutest one out of all of them.  If you click HERE (or the picture or the caption) it will take you to the page.

Thank you for your support!! Gracias por su apoyo!!

Third time’s a charm. Right?

We have officially become New Yorkers.  Ok, ok, some would object and say that we have to live here for 10 years before that even happens, but in my mind we’re official (this is my third time living in NYC). So there.  In the last month we have: ordered a couch (should get here mid july), bought bookshelves and a tv console, became zipsters (we get to rent cars with fun names by the hour), rented a mini storage, finally got a microwave, bought more shelves, got an A/C unit and pizza has become one of our main food groups. See? I wasn’t kidding around! Ven? No estaba bromeando!!!

Oh and we’ve started to enjoy the fun (and free of course) things to do in this wonderful city.  Last saturday we ventured to Brooklyn in the rainy, cloudy day and went to Renegade Craft Fair.  It’s now a tradition for us, ok this is only our second time….but we’ve decided to make it a yearly thing.  It’s fun to go people watch as well as support the handmade movement. I didn’t actually buy anything, but I love checking out all the booths.

Yesterday was Museum Mile Festival and we walked the whole 2 blocks to 5th Ave to enjoy the free art walk.  Museum mile is a yearly festival where they close 5th avenue from 82nd st through 105th st and you get to go into all the museums on 5th for free!!!  The streets are car-free and filled with street performers and food carts. The Cooper-Hewitt and the Guggenheim were CRAZY packed so we ended up at the Jewish Museum and were pleasantly surprised.  The museum had a vast collection of Matisse masterpieces and their heritage pieces are gorgeous! We had a lovely lovely time! Thanks for having us!

{Awesome little gypsy band playing on the sidewalk! Grupito gipsy super divertido tocando en la banqueta!}

What would you wear to the Oscars?

My day didn’t have the best start today….I only slept 4 hours and when I went to get gas this morning I totally spilled it down my leg and onto my shoes and also managed to splash my shirt.  Thankfully my leather jacket was gasoline free and I wasn’t wearing any fancy/super pretty shoes…just my Minnetonkas, but I reeked of gasoline!!! I had to go back home and shower all over again and scrub the smell off…it was kind of a nightmare. My day got better though…my lovely friend Annie bought me lunch and I got some pretty new stones at the gem faire that I can’t wait to play with!

{quartz in a lovely mint green & garnet}

Now I have dinner with friends in DTLA that I ‘m really looking forward to and hopefully a busy/productive work-filled weekend that will end with me watching the Oscars and eating some popcorn. I can’t wait!!  In preparation for this event I went pretend shopping at Bergdorf’s and…I found my top 3 picks for gowns I’d love to wear if I was actually attending…yes, yes…I’m daydreaming again!

{My absolute favorite: Zac Posen}

{Carmen Marc Valvo}

{Jason Wu: I just LOVE this color!}

What would you wear?  Have a lovely weekend!

The celebration continued….

Two years ago we went to Southern Italy on our honeymoon. As you travelers out there know….Sundays in Italy are literally lazy Sundays. Most places don’t open at all and some do, but only half day. It didn’t take us long to figure out that we would be heading to the mall on Sunday because that was the only place open for business!

It ended up being pretty amazing. There was a heineken bar/panini shop where some older Italian men were watching football and drinking beer and so we proceeded to do as the Romans do and joined them! The shop had hotdog & french fry paninis!! Don’t get me wrong….I’m no stranger to hot dog sandwiches. I grew up eating them and LOVE them. However the added goodness of fries in them intrigued us both so we ordered them. They were so tasty!! we couldn’t believe it! I’ve made them once since we got back and yesterday, in honor of our anniversary, I made them again, but with a twist! I added a little truffle oil to the fries and used sourdough bread. And for our greens….chilled green beans with feta cheese, black pepper, salt and lime!! Amazing!

{hot dog/french fry sandwich}

{green beans}

We also enjoyed some Moretti beers and managed to find an Italian game to entertain us while we ate. It was a lovely anniversary lunch!

To continue our celebration we went to Morton’s Steakhouse. We just recently found out that Morton’s has a power hour! What is this might you ask? well it’s happy hour from 4:30-6:30 as well as 9pm-close!!! And it just so happens that our location has food on their happy hour menu as well as drinks. It sounded so appetizing that we decided to go for a late night snack/drink.

We got the iceberg wedge salad (not pictured), the mini prime cheeseburgers, the chicken tenders and the filet mignon sandwiches. Oh they were good! And they make the best dirty martinis (or mortinis as they call them)! We had so much fun! My absolute favorite were the sliders….maybe it’s because they added bacon. Bacon makes everything better!

{extra dirrrty mortinis}

{chicken goujonettes….or as we know them: crispy chicken tenders}

Hope I didn’t make you too hungry!

It’s been 2 years!

Today is our 2 year wedding anniversary!! I can’t even believe it!! I think we still find ourselves saying we just got married.  On our trip last weekend all the sales guys kept calling us honeymooners and one even went as far as saying that it was because I still looked happy.  So I guess that’s a good sign right? And I am! It’s been hard, but it’s been super fun and I’m looking forward to the years to come.

Here’s a little video N made when we were in Southern Italy for our honeymoon. ENJOY!!
