So I taught myself to needle felt and I love it! I kind of had to….I wanted to get a pin cushion ring to give to someone and since the girl was featured in Martha Stewart Living her store is temporarily closed….so I was forced to make it myself. Isn’t it awesome?! Well I’m not showing the finished product because I forgot to take the picture, but imagine it with a ring finding….and it goes on your finger. Very convenient for sewing! I hope they love it!!
We are on a crafty kick in our household!!! We decided to make our stockings. Â I had wanted to make them for the last two years and just barely got around to doing so. Â Nick made his from scratch since he’s now a professional sewer and I just embellished mine, but they look fabulous!!!!
Cute right?! We might make this a yearly thing….
So we took a sewing class at our little community center here and on our 4th class we FINALLY finished our first project: a tote. We only had one more class after that so we didn’t have time to finish the second project in class….boo! But anyway….our totes came out so good!!! …..yes the pockets are kinda crooked, the seams don’t really line up and my straps are way longer then they’re supposed to be but I’m so proud of them for being our first thing ever that we’ve sewed!! Really…it’s not our fault…the teacher is pretty bad: no patterns, no samples, no pictures, NOTHING! We were pretty much going blind…if it wasn’t for my mother-in-law we would’ve been completely lost! They look a bit wrinkled, but they’re still pretty awesome….
My tote (the straps are long enough for me to use it as a messenger bag!)
Nick’s Hunter’s tote (not quite the shape he originally wanted, but it looks so good right?)
A few weeks ago I purchased one of Martha Stewart’s amazing books : Encyclopedia of Sewing and Fabric Crafts.  I already have the Encyclopedia of Crafts and I love it so after debating for a couple of months I decided I needed the sewing one as well; and um..duh! I love it too!
I found a super fun and “simple” pin cushion on there using a ball jar. Â I have loads of ball/kerr jars from my wedding and also from other projects so when I started thinking of my mother in law’s birthday present naturally this project was the answer. I made two one for her and one for my mom’s friend Magali. Â They both love sewing and this is a fun/practical way of carrying your tools.
I wrote “simple” because it looks and seems simple, but when trying to make them I realized that it’s not really simple. Â It’s kind of hard to push the cardboard out of the way so the jar will actually close. Also when you work with a hot glue gun…it kind of sucks because it dries fast so you don’t really have enough time to do everything. Â Anyway….I did finish both of them and they turned out pretty darn cute! See for yourselves…..(I forgot to take a pic of the black & white finished so I just have the green one)
Have yourselves a lovely wednesday afternoon….I know I will…I’m going to disneyland!
